Shoppers at The Esplanade mall in Kenner will have one less place to grab a bite to eat soon as the Chick-fil-a location, a mall staple for 30 years, has announced they are closing their doors.
A sign posted states:
"Thank you for letting us be a part of your community since October 9, 1985.
It's hard to say goodbye but we will be closing our doors October 17, 2015. We will miss you!
Chick-fil-a, The Esplanade."
Chick-fil-a joins a long list of stores that have fled The Esplanade including Ann Taylor Loft, The Gap, Hollister, and others.
Last year, Kenner Mayor Mike Yenni told Fox 8 that he was "blindsided" by store closings at The Esplanade and, as she has done in the past, then District 4 Councilwoman Maria DeFrancesch (now Council-At-Large) discussed potential new stores at The Esplanade "like Belk's" which, like the Kohl's store Yenni and DeFrancesch discussed in 2011, still have yet to materialize.
Sadly, after next week, I will now need to trek to Metairie and endure Veterans Blvd. traffic to enjoy my Chick-fil-a sandwich and waffle fries.
